You drench the plowed ground with rain,
melting the clods and leveling the ridges.
You soften the earth with showers
and bless its abundant crops. Psalm 65:10 NLT
In the spring when the bright yellow dandelions are at their peak, I call it happy grass. I know most people hate them blooming in their yards, but the yellow reminds me of happy faces looking heavenward to their Creator smiling in the light of the sun.
Yesterday I read about the results of a study that was being done on how water affects blades of grass. And what they found was amazing, the cells of the the blades of grass appeared to be smiling after being sprinkled with water. Yes, you read that correctly the round cells looked like they were smiley faces! We know how important water is to all living things, but their cells reaction to it took the researchers by surprise.
Ephesians 5:26 tells us, so that He might sanctify the church, having cleansed her by the washing of water with the word [of God]. We’re like these blades of grass, when we read and study the Word, every cell in our being comes alive. We may be physically tired, or emotionally or mentally depleted but when we read those life giving words, we experience a restorative touch. A peace that seems to come from nowhere, a quiet joy that comes from remembering we are never alone. A refreshment that restores our hope no matter the circumstances. Over the past few days with all the passing storms, the grass must be really smiling.
