If you keep quiet at a time like this, deliverance and relief for the Jews will arise from some other place, but you and your relatives will die. Who knows if perhaps you were made queen for just such a time as this?” Esther 4:14
Last evening was the close of Purim, a time for the Jews to celebrate their deliverance from annihilation from their enemy Haman. The account is played out in the Book of Esther, where believe it or not God’s name is never mentioned.
I always thought that was odd, until as I was reading it one day God reminded me He is found woven intricately through out the entire thrilling story. Who said the Bible wasn’t exciting? Because this is a story of the first woman in history going undercover to save the entire nation of Israel. And she had to become the Queen of Persia to do it. She was taken to be placed in a harem from which the next queen would be chosen.
The young women were placed in the care of Hagai and Esther found favor in his eyes and she was given special treatment. The preparation time to personally meet with the king took an entire year. So when it came time for the women to have a private audience, they could choose whatever clothing and jewelry they wanted. And they chose what they liked. But Esther was different, she asked about what the king liked and dressed for him. Then when she went to him, everything she did and said was to please him, and so she became Queen. And eventually saved her people from being destroyed.
Although there are many take aways from this story, Today the focus on her being led by God when she met the king to want to please him and she could, because she learned what pleased him. What about us? Have we prepared ourselves to meet in the presence of the King of kings and know what pleases Him? Do we live our lives for ourselves or for the One who created us and died to save us from whatever is trying to destroy us.
We need to remember we are prince and princesses of the Most High God and we are royalty and we serve at the pleasure of our King. The best way to do that is to know Him better, more and more as we draw closer and closer to His heart and become more and more like His beloved Son. Because who knows, you are here for such a time as this.
