And now, dear brothers and sisters, one final thing. Fix your thoughts on what is true, and honorable, and right, and pure, and lovely, and admirable. Think about things that are excellent and worthy of praise. Philippians4:8
Across the US and Canada there are 88 weather predicting Groundhogs and even a lobster in Maine. Yesterday some predicted six more weeks of winter and others said an early Spring. And although it may seem a bit crazy to get up before dawn to see if a Groundhog sees his shadow, it isn’t really about the prediction at all. It’s about the fun and festivities that go along with the prediction when people could use it the most.
Think about it the withdrawal from the Holiday hype is over, a lot of those life changing resolutions that were made have already ended in disappointment, soon Lent will begin along with fasting, usually from comfort foods and this year it’s just plain cold and oppressive. But here’s the rub, those predictions have planted seeds in peoples minds and the thought of six more weeks of winter at this point is depressing. That’s why I say go with Wiarton Willie who said it will be an early Spring.
So if what we hear, produces what we think, and what we think produces our emotions and mood. Then in the end it forms how we live and perceive things. So then, how important is it for us to hear, listen to and ponder on life giving words. Let today’s verse be a sweet treat to enjoy and savor and mull over so it’s planted deep in your heart and mind. Who cares what either Groundhog predicts, because either way we know Winter will melt away and Spring will bloom and we know that because the Word tells us so, “As long as the earth endures, seedtime and harvest, cold and heat, summer and winter, day and night will never cease.” – Genesis 8:22
