He makes me to lie down in green pastures;
He leads me beside the still waters.
He restores my soul;
He leads me in the paths of righteousness
For His name’s sake. Psalm 23:2-3
Psalm 23 has to be one of the most quoted and familiar Psalms. And perhaps that’s why we really don’t conider what we are saying and reading. Yesterday we learned that God loves to restore to His children all that the enemy takes from us. Usually when we hear about restoration we think of material things or relationships. But God also wants to restore our souls, our minds, wills and emotions.
Notice how He brings restoration to our souls. He wants us to rest, He wants us to lie down in cool green pastures that are beside calming waters. Did you know that sheep cannot lie down if they are stressed and fearful. Yet Jesus in His kind, calm voice calls us to rest in Him and to like down so He can restore our minds so we can learn His will and calm our emotions.
Once we are relaxed able to stop the noise of this world and listen to His directions can He lead us down the right paths that will bring Him glory and honor and empower us to do His will. When we allow Him to restore us, we will find the peace, joy and hope we need to live the abundant life Jesus died to give us. So next time the world is draining you of your peace and strength take time to meet Him in the green pastures by the cool refreshing waters of His presence and Word and you will find the restoration only He alone can give.
