“This is what the Lord says: This dry valley will be filled with pools of water! You will see neither wind nor rain, says the Lord, but this valley will be filled with water. You will have plenty for yourselves and your cattle and other animals. 2 Kings 3:16-17
In 2 Kings 3 there is an obscure account of three kings, king Joram of Israel (son of Ahab and Jezebel), king Jehosaphat of Judah and the king of Edom went up against Moab. They met and traveled along the route of the wilderness of Edom for seven days and there was no water. The men were asking what they were going to do. Then king Joram began to lose it and said that God brought the three of them out just to kill them. But Jehosaphat asked if there was no Prophet of the Lord with them. For he knew if there was they could ask for the Lord’s help through him. One of Joram’s officers said Elisha was with them.
So the three of them went to consult with Elisha, who was less than thrilled to see them. But because of his respect for Jehoshaphat he said he would inquire of the Lord on their behalf. And God said the dry valley would be filled with water. And in the morning water that appeared flowing from Edom was everywhere. Now the water wasn’t just for the men and animals, it also was used to make the army of Moab think the three armies turned on each other because the rising sun made the water look like blood. So out of sheer greed the king of Moab ordered the men to plunder what was left, but when they got there, the three armies attacked them and chased them.
I encourage you to read the chapter, it’s a quick read with more details. But the point of this account is found in verse 12, where Jehosaphat declares His faith and belief in God and His prophets. Because He sought Elisha and believed that God would speak through him the tables were turned. Water was provided and victory was assured and God did more than they ever expected. God has not changed. When we believe in Him and have faith that He will provide even in the bleakest looking circumstance He shows up. And we have it much better, we don’t need a prophet to intervene, because of Jesus’ finished work on the cross we can go directly into the throne room of grace and receive whatever we need.
If you’re in a dry valley right now, in a battle or just need a miracle, then call on the Lord and believe He will not only answer but provide whatever you need.to achieve your victory.
