It is not that we think we are qualified to do anything on our own. Our qualification comes from God. 6 He has enabled us to be ministers of his new covenant. This is a covenant not of written laws, but of the Spirit. The old written covenant ends in death; but under the new covenant, the Spirit gives life. 2 Corinthians 3:5-6 NLT
Whether we like it or not, most of us have a very independent relationship with our Heavenly Father; even if we have dependent relationships with people. We insist on doing everything ourselves, even when it looks like mission impossible. Yet Jesus told us that He is the Vine and we are the branches and that apart from Him, we can do nothing (John 15:5). Ephesians 2:10 reminds us that we are His workmanship and through our relationship with Jesus we are created to do good works before we were even born and it His will that we walk in them. And then there’s todays passage that makes it clear that Jesus enables us to share Him with others through His Holy Spirit.
The truth of the quote, “Without Him we can’t and without us He won’t” should make us think about how we see ourselves in our relationship with Him. In and of ourselves we are not qualified nor enabled to live out our calling. Can’t means we aren’t capable without Him working in us, it’s not a choice. On God’s end it states He won’t or will not without us, meaning He could do it alone, but He wants to do the works with us. That is what a true relationship is all about, learning to walk through this life together. Perhaps we all should ask ourselves if we are allowing Jesus through His Holy Sprit to talk and walk with us. If the answer is no, then ask Holy Spirit to show you how you can become more interdependent with Him to accomplish all He has planned for you.
