So now we come freely and boldly to where love is enthroned, to receive mercy’s kiss and discover the grace we urgently need to strengthen us in our time of weakness. Hebrews 4:16
We just finished up our sermon series on the love, mercy and grace of God. The summation of these sermons is this; if you haven’t experienced and know the love of God, you’ll never be able to understand His mercy, which are the only things that will help you receive His grace by which we are saved. Therefore, you will never be able to lead others to Jesus, which we are called to do.
We are all living in a time of chaos, confusion, deception, insideous diseases, insecurity and fear. It doesn’t matter where you live on this planet, these are the things we all are facing and many are finding that they need more than the the things of this world. People are searching and longing for some semblance of security and clamness in the midst of all the upheaval.
There is One who has provided all the things we are longing for these days. John 1:17 puts it this way, The law was given through Moses, but grace and truth came through Jesus Christ. Do you see that? The Law was given, a Covenant cut between God and mankind, because they told God they could do whatever He asked. Obviously they failed. So why did God give it to them if He knew that? Because He wanted them to see just how much they needed Him and that their pride, arrogance and shear will weren’t going to cut it. Yet in His mercy, He would always forgive them and bring them back to Himself.
It was His great love for us that He didn’t just send us directions, He sent His Son to cut the New Covenant with Him. The One who had no sin, knew no sin and committed no sin, the Perfect Lamb who would reconcile us back to the Father when we accept His forgiveness. He sent Him to show us what God’s love, mercy and grace truly mean. That by accepting Jesus as our gift we are empowered to become more like Him, so we too can influence others to receive the gift of His Son Jesus. Do we know enough about Jesus to be grace and truth to others?
