“But I have this against you: You have left the love you had in the beginning.” Revelation 2:4
Many who read this think that Jesus is talking about our love for Him. But it’s not, it’s about us forgetting about how much He loves us. And sadly so many times that is so true. When He doesn’t answer a prayer the way we want or we’re going through a rough time. Perhaps we’re experiencing a health set back or loss of a job. Or maybe even just a time of confusion or not hearing Him. What is our first response, “don’t you love me anymore” or “if He really loved me.”
The truth is, God’s love for us is so great that even when we get angry at Him or He disappoints us He takes it because He knows what we need whether we do or not. And usually in the end looking back we see the purpose in the disappointment and the pain. And you know what, we’re better for it and so are all those who benefit from the change and transition in our lives. So next time you’re feeling like you’re unloved, place your hand over your heart, pat your chest and sing the simple Sunday School song, Yes, Jesus loves me, the Bible tells me so. Sing it several times until you can feel the love of Jesus reassuring you, you are deeply loved by the One who first loved you.
