I prayed for this child, and the Lord answered my prayer and gave him to me. 1 Samuel 1:27
When Operation Christmas Child started, Franklin Graham would help deliver the boxes and he loved to share the life changing stories. One that stuck with him was truly God meeting the need of the recipient but also the givers.
The delivery was to an orphanage in Europe, filled with children, who were orphaned many through conflicts and war. There was a little boy who even when he received his box didn’t seem excited and when the children were told they could open their boxes he just sat with it resting on his lap. Franklin’s heart was breaking, so he went over to him and asked if he wanted help, but he just sat there. So Franklin said let’s open it together, inside was a leather jacket just his size and some toys, but still there was no response. So with the help of a teacher translating he asked him what he really wanted for Christmas. He said a family.
See, his parents were killed in a car accident only a few months before and he was very sad. Franklin didn’t know what to say, so he took a toy out of his box to play with him. It was then he saw the picture of a young couple with a message on the back, wishing the recipient of their box a Merry Christmas and asking what gift they enjoyed the most along with their names and address. He read it to the little boy and the teacher said they would write back and let them know what his favorite one was.
That letter led to them writing one another frequently and soon the young couple went for a visit, and then another and finally they adopted that little boy. Only God could make what seemed to be an impossible request for Christmas to become a reality by putting a family in his Shoebox and the prayers of both the giver and the receiver were answered with one another. Don’t ever underestimate God. No matter how impossible or improbable the request may seem remember you’re asking God over the impossible and He can truly meet the desires of your heart.
