My aim is to know him, to experience the power of his resurrection. . . Philippians 3:10a NET
As I was preparing for our Easter Sermon, the Lord led me to today’s verse. As I studied I recalled how several years ago I went to a Conference in Florida, that ran from a Tuesday to Thursday. I decided to fly down on Monday and return early Friday morning, although everyone was telling me I should stay down a few extra days since it had been years since I had taken a weeks vacation. But it was January and I just didn’t have peace when I went to change the flight. So I kept the 7:00 AM flight back.
Going down it took twenty minutes longer because we faced a headwind. I was so glad I went a day early, although everything was now delayed, I didn’t have to rush or be stressed. It was an amazing life changing conference. However, the local weathermen were predicting a blizzard that would begin Friday night. Honestly, I don’t believe the forecasts, they’re wrong way too often. But I had such a peace, because I was flying out Friday morning. Because of the storm, we had a tailwind on the way home, and we arrived thirty minutes early! And good thing we did, until I got home, got the dogs from the kennel and fed them, the first flakes began to fall. And 32 inches later it stopped, and the sky was blue and the sun was shinning.
During the flight down and back I experienced the power of an unseen force, one time it was working against me, the other it worked to my advantage. How similar it is to our spiritual walk. There are times when it seems like there is an unseen force hindering us from accomplishing what we are trying to do. Then other times, we feel like we’re being pushed forward at an astonishing pace. The end result is the Resurrection power of the Holy Spirit that is within us is greater than any other force in this world. And yes, sometimes Holy Spirit holds us back, because truth is we’re just not ready for what God has planned for us. Then other times, He’s accomplishing His purpose in us quickly and it surprises us. We need to remember that exxperiencing His power, is in His way, His time and for His purpose and when we choose to work with Him, the results will be amazing.
