God is love. 1 John 4:17
In 1964 Diana Ross sang What the World Needs Now Is Love Sweet Love. Fast forward 20 years to 1984 and the band Foreigner asked, I Want to Know What Love Is. Now it’s 2020 and nothing has changed, as a matter of fact things have gotten worse. I truly believe the only way for things to change is for followers of Jesus Christ to do what Jesus challenged us to do in John 13:35, and that’s to love others as Jesus loves us. He goes on to say that when we do, then others will know that we are His followers.
This week take time to evaluate how you treat others, especially those who oppose you and your beliefs. Remember that God loves us with Agape (unconditional love). This type of love isn’t dependent upon the receiver, but upon the character of the giver and today’s verse tells us God’s character, and it is love. The harsh reality is that God loves everyone, even the vilest sinner, simply because He places a high value on every person, He doesn’t see us how they are, but how we could be, who He created us to be if only we would let Him love us, and accept His grace, mercy and forgiveness.
If you ever doubt that, remember, He sent His beloved Son to be beaten, ripped apart by the whipping with a Roman whip, was nailed to a cross not even looking human anymore and hung there for six hours; to become sin and cursed so that sin would no longer have power over us and break the curse of the fall. And He did it just for you. What are you willing to do for others, especially those who don’t love you back?
