So Ahab went to eat and drink. But Elijah climbed to the top of Mount Carmel and bowed low to the ground and prayed with his face between his knees. 1 Kings 18:42
It doesn’t take long after hearing, reading or watching the news you become aware that once again it seems our nation is becoming unhinged and spinning out of control. But for the Believer it should also make us aware that we are not fighting against mere flesh and bones, but rather dealing with demonic spirits working in people stirring up hate, division, confusion and violence. This means our only weapon is prayer, the kind of Prayer Elijah prayed In 1 Kings 17:1 and 18:42.
James 5:17 tells us he prayed earnestly, fervently, hard and intensely depending on the translation for it to stop raining for 3 1/2 years and then to start again. In both the Greek and Hebrew words used in these passages isn’t just the word pray they both mean intimately, a connecting and binding together, emotional attachment. In other words it’s being in the presence of God and talking with Him. James tells us that Elijah was human just like us, so that we would know we too can pray like he did and get powerful results just like him. But we need to truly commune with Him.
We’re told Elijah gave Ahab the message God gave to him about not raining, so speaking what the Lord has said is a form of prayer. This is wonderful to know when we don’t know what to pray for, we then can pray the Word itself for John reminds us that the Word became flesh (John 1:14). His Word has great power when it is wielded by a Believer (Ephesians 6:17). But when he prayed for it to rain, we are told he squatted and put his head between his knees. This is a significant posture for it was the position laboring women took to deliver their babies. So beloved of God get your hearts into the position of birthing an awakening and revival as Holy Spirit moves across this nation and the world taking out the enemy and transforming lives!
