And we are confident that he hears us whenever we ask for anything that pleases him. 1 John 5:14
The other night before Bible Study, a young man stopped by the church. I saw him standing in the back and one of the women talking with him as I was making sure the bathrooms had paper towels and toilet paper. By the time I came out of the Ladies Room everyone had moved into Fellowship Hall. As I entered Dawn said, this young man has been waiting to speak with you. As I greeted him, he said, “you don’t remember me do you?” I replied, “I’m sorry, I don’t”. Then I saw tears in his eyes as he said you prayed with me in the parking lot.
Then the memory came flooding back. I was raking leaves and he was cutting across the lot and I said hello, and we talked about the weather and then he offered to help me. As we bagged the leaves he began to share some things he was dealing with in his life. So before he left I thanked him and asked if I could pray with him and with a big smile he said yes. So with my hand on his shoulder we prayed and thanked God for providing provision in all the areas he mentioned. Then I prayed a blessing over him and ended for him to remember he was deeply, deeply loved, walking in God’s favor and covered in His blessings. Then I remember telling him to keep believing he already has what he asked for, thanking Him even if he doesn’t see it yet.
He then said, “I’ve been trying to see you and kept missing you. I wanted to tell you everything we prayed for, God has provided and I can’t thank you enough!” I was so excited and said “all I did was pray, God did all the rest, so give Him the glory.” We hugged and thanked him for coming back and telling me how God had blessed him. I invited him to come to service and join us in worshiping the Lord together, and he smiled and said he would. And now I’m looking forward to having him join our church family. Don’t ever think your prayers don’t matter or come to nothing when you don’t know the outcome or see anything change. God is working in His time and His way and if we don’t give up and in to doubt and discouragement we will see the goodness of God in the land of the living (Ps. 27:13).
