For I will pour out water to quench your thirst
and to irrigate your parched fields.
And I will pour out my Spirit on your descendants,
and my blessing on your children. Isaiah 44:3
Last Fall we entered into a severe drought and although we’ve had snow, ice and rain, which seemed to happen every other day we’re still in it. Here’s the thing about droughts, they don’t happen overnight and they don’t end quickly either. It’s a lot like when we enter into a spiritual drought.
Spiritual droughts most often come slowly and that’s why the enemy makes them so effective. Until we’re pretty far into one, we don’t even realize it. We know something’s off, but there’s always a good answer, our jobs, sleeplessness, pain both physically and emotionally, disappointment and just stress and anxiety in general. Then before we know it, we realize we haven’t prayed or read the Bible in awhile, the joy of going to church is gone and even being with other Believers. You’re in the desert and literally dying of thirst for the Word and being in His presence.
Although it only takes a few words from the Scriptures, we can begin to feel the softening of spirit and soul it brings. But we must not only continue in the Word, but also find time to be in His presence. Singing worship songs is a great way to let the Spirit flow like waves over you that leads you into times of prayer and communing with Him. And as you do these things you will find the drought being quenched with the love of the Lord. Droughts will come, but always remember where the Living Water may be found, He’s as close as the mention of His name.
