Empty Worship

April 8, 2021 By Colette Brinker Leave a Comment

The old system under the law of Moses was only a shadow, a dim preview of the good things to come, not the good things themselves. The sacrifices under that system were repeated again and again, year after year, but they were never able to provide perfect cleansing for those who came to worship.  Hebrews 10:1 NLT

Worship in itself can be a very empty act. According to this Scripture Jews in the Old Testament worshipped by performing rituals, rites and sacrifices, which had to be done over and over again because there was no real cleansing it was only a reminder of their sin. The Law came into being, because of the Isrealites rebellion and their wanting to know rules and regulations rather than listening to and following God on a momentary basis.

When I look at the act of worship in this light, it makes me wonder, have we really accepted the once and for all blood sacrifice of Jesus that the rest of this chapter talks about? How many of us still go before the Lord with empty worship? Think about it, do we go to church, sing the songs, lift our hands, pray, etc. with all our focus on God and the fact that His Son has cleansed us and His Holy Spirit empowered us? To often we go to church, sing the songs, lift our hands and pray, because it’s what a good Christian does, that’s what’s expected of us. But how empty are those acts, no wonder we leave church feeling the same way or worse then when we went in. If we haven’t met with and truly worshipped the One who redeemed and cleansed us back to Him, we are only being shown our sin, and then we don’t know what to do them. We have forgotten the only one who can forgive sins is God. The only one who not only covers those sins with His Sons blood but removes them is God! Today, take the time to not just go through the motions of private devotions and our list of prayers requests, but worship the One who made your salvation and spiritual victory possible. He is waiting to fill you with His presence and fill you with His glory.
