Then I will sprinkle clean water on you, and you will be clean; I will cleanse you from all your filthiness and from all your idols. Ezekiel 36:25
Have you ever looked at your living space, mail, checkbook, etc. and thought, ‘I’m surrounded by messy build up”! Well that’s what has happened at our church. On the surface it looks good, but open and door to an unused room or closet or cabinet and the ugly truth is starring back at you. So a few of us decided it was time to take the task on.
The first thing we had to do was clean out a storage space to put the stuff we were going to keep. So we got a space cleaned out and was able to move boxes from the Library so we could set it up for an office. We threw out some things that were way beyond repair or no longer usable. We made as I like to say, “got rid of the chaos of the clutter.” After a few hours work we now had two rooms that were usable and a storage space that worked well.
It’s like that spiritually, we often don’t realize it, but we get messy build up of life on our spirits and souls. It not only slows us down, but it actually can hinder us from learning more about Jesus and the direction He’s leading us in. Today’s verse talks about idols and the filth we pick up just from living in this world. So from time to time, it’s always good to stop and wash ourselves with the Word, and get rid of all those things that we place before God in our life. And by that I don’t necessarily mean something physical, it can also be an attitude or mind set. I know it takes time to get things cleaned out, but spending time in the Word and His presence washes and refreshes us and worth the time it takes.
