And you shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.” John 8:32
Our minds are amazing. It has been said that we only use 10% of our brains, mainly because we would be overwhelmed by the things we would learn and know. Our minds can lead us to think of the good and bad. We can either worry, or meditate on God’s Word. We can forgive and have peace and joy or become angry, bitter and resentful. The truth is what we focus on and think about, is what eventually begin to believe, right or wrong. And sometimes what we focus on isn’t as it seems.
An example of this is a women who was grocery shopping. It was a warm beautiful day. She got checked out and loaded her car with her groceries , returned the cart and got into her car. Then it happened, a loud pop and she felt a pressure in the back of her head as she reached back, she felt a warm sticky mass in the back of her head. Panic gripped her heart, and she passed out. When she finally woke up she realized she had been out for quite some time and fearful to move she sat there for almost an hour before someone questioned her if she was ok.
She told them she had been shot and she couldn’t move because her brains were coming out of her head! That’s when the person told her that she was fine, a container of refrigerator biscuits had exploded and hit her in the back of the head! What she felt was dough, not her brains. As a matter of fact other than goopy hair, she was not hurt in any way and she was fine. Once she heard the pop, her mind went into overdrive and created a scenario that was anything but true. And so for an hour she thought she was dying. Not until someone was kind enough to notice she was sitting in her car motionless for a long time and told her the truth could she relax and move.
How many times have we jumped to conclusions and created scenarios from false information? We lose our peace and joy and become stressed and anxious. And if someone doesn’t take the time to notice our anxiety and tell us the truth in love, we will go on believing the lie and the longer that goes on the more in turns into our truth. But only His truth is the one that sets us totally free from everything that is trying to destroy us. So next time you find yourself in a situation where you don’t have all the facts, make sure you take the time to find them while you’re focusing on Jesus and His Word and Holy Spirit will lead you to the truth and set you free.
