You were getting along so well. Who has interfered with you to hold you back from following the truth? Galatians 5:7 TLB
Did you know that crabs are a lot like people? Oh I know we say someone in a bad mood is crabby, because they snap at others. But crab behavior goes way beyond a bad mood. When a crab is caught and placed in a container alone, there is no problem. It tries to get out and often it succeeds. The problems start when they’re in there with other crabs. Much like us, when we’re alone, everything is going well. It’s when other people invade our space, whether physical, audibly, virtual or through media problems start.
When there is a container of crabs and one tries to get out, the others pull it back down. If it insists on trying achieve freedom, the other crabs will actually kill it! Now think about it, especially with today’s many ways of 24/7/365 of communication people are constantly trying to pull others down to their level and keeping others from living free and achieving their dreams. This happens because of emotions like pride, jealousy, envy, bitterness, resentment, entitlement, superiority, etc. This can happen conciously and subconciously. It happens by means of gossip, negative and demeaning talk, and back biting to name a few.
This is known as “crab mentality” in people. Reading about it, we don’t have a problem with believing it happens. But why do we allow people with “crab mentalities” to keep us from truly living? It is usually because we have learned wrong beliefs, through our families, peers, news, etc. It’s difficult to change these mindsets, because we want to be liked and accepted by others. And although we are supposed to love others, as we love ourselves (Matt. 22:39), we can only truly love ourselves when we see ourselves as God sees us. When we learn, know and believe who we are in Christ, then those mindsets will be reset by the truth of the Word. We will find not only will we not allow people to hinder us, but we will speak truth and life into their lives. Whable to do far more than we would ever dare to ask or even dream of—infinitely beyond our highest prayers, desires, thoughts, or hopes.en we believe the Word of God more than the words of people will we be “able to do far more than we would ever dare to ask or even dream of—infinitely beyond our highest prayers, desires, thoughts, or hopes.” Ephesians 3:20 TLB
