The spirit often throws him into the fire or into water, trying to kill him. Have mercy on us and help us, if you can.” “What do you mean, ‘If I can’?” Jesus asked. “Anything is possible if a person believes.” The father instantly cried out, “I do believe, but help me overcome my unbelief!” Mark 9:22-24 NLT
If you have been watching the weather for Florida, Milton is heading right towards her Gulf Coast with unbelievable devastation to lay in his wake. The storm in less than 28 hours went from a category 1 to a 5! Although he has lessened a bit he still will hit with great power. Most residents are fleeing, but some are staying, to hopefully “ride” it out and wait for the best. Millions are watching helplessly as he marches across the Gulf picking up more moisture to dump on Florida with an overwhelming storm surge.
So, we’ve been praying for the protection of the citizens and the state, with heartfelt faith. But yesterday Gordon Robertson prayed a bold prayer like the one prayed by the father in today’s passage, “I do believe, help my unbelief!” He prayed that just as Jesus told the storm to “be still” back then, He can do it today also simply because we His children are crying out to Him and believing with all our hearts He truly is the God who can tell even the most destructive storm of the century to “Be still” and dissipate it. If you believe that Jesus is the same yesterday, today and forever and that when two are in agreement He will give them what they pray for, then let’s join Gordon in praying for the storm to die down as quickly as it ramped up and spare the citizens and state of Florida then give God all the glory!
