“Show me your ways, Lord, teach me your paths.” Psalm 25:4
On my way to Church, there are three places where there are merge signs going from two lanes down to one. And every day cars are jockeying for position, mainly because the drivers either don’t see the signs or they ignore them. When the traffic is light there’s no problem, but when it’s heavy it makes for a traffic mess.
Not paying attention to traffic signs cause problems. But so does not paying attention to spiritual signs, like worry and stress, loss of joy, lack of prayer and thanksgiving, finding it difficult to read the Bible, and lifting your voice in praise and worship. All of these are signs that something is out of alignment in our relationship with the Lord. Of course for short periods of time it may be because of schedule changes, emergencies, illness, etc. But when it goes on too long we should heed the signs and begin to ask Holy Spirit to reveal to us what is the cause.
Now most of us don’t like to do this, because it will reveal somethings we need to change. And let’s be honest most of us aren’t fans of change. But change is the basis for our life with the Lord, Paul said we change from glory to glory to become more and more like Jesus (2 Corinthians 3:18). Every sign, even if it’s negative, God can use it to help us become more like Jesus and help others see who He truly is. So how important is it to heed the signs? Very, because someone else’s life may depend on it.
