You know, at least there is a kind of hope for a tree:
if it gets cut down, it may yet sprout again out of the roots.
And very likely then, its tender shoots will not die.
Its roots may age deep under the ground,
and the stump appear dead in the dry earth,
But even then it needs only the merest whiff of water
to bud again and put forth shoots like a newly planted sapling. Job 14:7-9 VOICE
As I was walking to water my planter with a watering can that has a pin hole, I thought of a story I had heard about a woman who had to go to a well everyday for water. She carried two jars on a pole across her back. Going to the well was a quick trip. But coming home seemed much longer because of the weight of the water. Whe was even more frustrated, because there was a crack in one of her jars and she lost half of that jars water.
She tried repairing it, but soon it would be leaking again. Day after day she felt she was fighting a losing battle and became discouraged. She was losing water she surely could use, especially since the crack seemed to be getting bigger. Then one day as she was approaching the path to the well, with her head hung down in dispare she saw little plants springing up from the ground. Then as they grew she began to notice they were growing and she began to look forward to seeing them. One day as she lifted her head, from a distance she saw beautiful colors. As she got close she saw beautiful flowers all along the path to the well. But it was odd, they were only growing on one side. As she left the well, she realized they were grwoing because she had been watering the path with her cracked jar! That day the walk home didn’t seem as long and she felt a joy and spring in her step.
Just like that cracked jar, sometimes we think when we read the Scriptures we’re not getting anything out of it. But they are like water and when we keep reading and hearing the Word, they are life giving. Hebrews4:12 tells us that are alive and active, just as the water activated the soil and brought the seeds to life, so will the Scriptures if we continue allow them to water our spirits. If you’re reading or hearing the word, begin looking for changes that are happening in your life. Do you have a more positive outlook, are growing in patience or any other of the spritual fruit found in Galatians 5. Do you find your daily routine has become lighter and brighter? Then my friend you have been watered by the Word, so keep on reading, hearing and growing in the Lord.
