Purge me with hyssop, and I shall be clean;
wash me, and I shall be whiter than snow. Psalm 51:7
The other day I was grocery shopping and saw a sale on all the Passover foods. One of them was “coffee whitener” instead of coffee creamer. My mind went to today’s verse and a picture of if you pour enough “whitener” into the coffee, it will become lighter and lighter, then eventually will turn white.
Then growing up in a family that owned a plumbing and heating business I was very familiar with the concept of purging a water line. When there was sediment or some other contaminant in the water, fresh water was forced though the pipes to replace the dirty water. When it ran clear, they knew the purge was complete.
Hyssop an evergreen plant in the mint family which has purification properties. When in liquid form, a small amount literally purges the contamination out of a person or object and make it clean. All of these are ways to rid someone or something of contaminants, but none of them including the hyssop are able to cleanse and purify like the blood of Jesus. Only His blood can cleanse us from all sin and unrighteousness and everything else that tries to contaminate and destroy us. So next time the enemy wants to remind you of your failings and sin, just sing to him, Oh precious is the flow that makes me! white as snow, no other fount I know, Nothing But The Blood of Jesus. It will make him flee because he despises the blood and he hates songs of praise!
