“But I have this complaint against you. You don’t love me or each other as you did at first! Revelation 2:4 NLT
The reason many Christians aren’t seeking revival simply is because they think they don’t need it. We are in that proverbial forest where we all we see are the trees! What do we need to see? We need to realize we have become a people of compromise. We have one foot in the world and one foot in the church. And the sad thing is we’re comfortable! So what brings compromise? Well, sin, plain and simple because sin separates us from God usually little by little so we don’t even know it’s happening. However sometimes the consequence of our sin comes quickly, like a smack in the face.
That’s just how it is with revival among God’s people when the spiritual need is great. Sometimes just by hearing the Word preached or studying the Scriptures God begins bringing sin to the surface and it brings conviction and then a true repentance breaks forth and hearts turn back to God and revival is produced. There isn’t a significant day or time, there is just a presence and power that had faded and is now back and they are experiencing true worship and unity.
Sometimes it occurs quickly because of an event or an experience during a service that shakes people to the core. They see how displeasing their lifestyle has been to the Lord and their hearts are broken. They begin confessing their sin, seeking forgiveness and cleansing and as they repent they find restoration and revival breaking out.
No matter how it comes it is only a work of God alone and His way is perfect. The bottom line is then that true revival can’t come without a move of God. Those who have seen the need for us to return to God needs to keep praying and seeking His face, so that His Spirit will begin convicting of sin. People won’t just be sorry for their sins, but will repent and we will experience another great awakening that truly will bring the restoration this great nation so desperately needs.
