For he will order his angels
to protect you wherever you go.
They will hold you up with their hands
so you won’t even hurt your foot on a stone. Psalm 91:11-12
Yesterday on Christmas, I saw something that will have me pondering it in my heart for the rest of my life. After dinner when we were cleaning up, my Mom was walking around the table picking things up and talking to herself as usual. We we were in the kitchen doing the dishes and packaging up the leftovers.
As I was turning around to put a clean dish on the table I saw my 90 year old Mom teetering on the threshold between the kitchen and sunroom where we ate. She rocked back and forth and next thing I knew she was falling backwards towards the table. I yelled Mom and and my brother and I ran towards her from opposite directions. By that time she was pivoting to the left and an open space. Still falling backwards ever so slowly to the tile floor. Her glasses were knocked off and her hand hit the door latch on her way down.
Now you may be thinking what’s so amazing about that. Well, it’s because my Mom was tired and having pain in her legs so she was less than agile to make that pivot let alone to lower herself to the floor slowly. I truly believe an angel had her back, that he held her up pivoted her and lowered her to the floor. Other than a bruise on her hand she is fine, slept well and wasn’t hurting nor stiff the next day. This makes me wonder how many times we miss the intervention of an angel in our lives. Could it be because we don’t believe they are there protecting and intervening for us on a 24/7 basis? Seeing isn’t believing, but rather believing is then seeing. Now that truly is something to ponder.
