Early the next morning the army of Judah went out into the wilderness of Tekoa. On the way Jehoshaphat stopped and said, “Listen to me, all you people of Judah and Jerusalem! Believe in the Lord your God, and you will be able to stand firm. Believe in his prophets, and you will succeed.” 21 After consulting the people, the king appointed singers to walk ahead of the army, singing to the Lord and praising him for his holy splendor. This is what they sang: “Give thanks to the Lord; his faithful love endures forever!” 22 At the very moment they began to sing and give praise, the Lord caused the armies of Ammon, Moab, and Mount Seir to start fighting among themselves. 2 Chronicles 20:20-22
Believe, such a simple word, with several meanings. You can believe something, like water freezes at 32 degrees. You can believe someone you have a relationship with because you trust them. Then you can believe in God, that He exists, but the believe here is with your heart, it’s an undeniable trust because of what you have experienced or seen.
Judah has come to this point, why else would they go out to meet a group of armies coming to destroy them? Especially knowing they were told they weren’t even going to have to fight. They also believed in the power of praise. So that’s why they sent the Praise and Worship team before them declaring loudly “Give thanks to the Lord, for His love endures forever”. And their hearts of praise and words of worship sent the enemy into a tailspin of confusion and they turned on one another. When the chaos was over the opposing armies were totally annihilated and it took Judah three days to collect the plunder.
How about you? When your facing an impossible situation or the bottom is falling out of your life, do you still believe enough to give praise and worship to the Lord? Praise and worship sends shock waves through the enemy and releases God’s power of into the situation to defeat the enemy and give us peace and focus on Him. Let’s take a lesson from Judah and when it looks like all is lost, sing to the Lord and watch the enemy fall.
