When I think about a life that if the lids placed on his life would have remained, it would have changed history, I think of Joseph. He started out his life in a wealthy family where he was the 12th and favorite son. This did not endear him to his older brothers, especially once he began to share the dreams God gave him of them bowing down to him. So they plotted to kill him, but chickened out and sold him into slavery instead (lid on). But God was with him and he was sold in Egypt to the Captain of the Guard, and quickly became the overseer of the house (lid broken). But Potiphers wife accused him of rape, so he was thrown into prison (lid on), but God was with him and he became the assistant to the jailer (lid broken), but he was still in jail. He met the cupbearer and baker to Pharoah and interpreted their dreams and asked them to remember him when they got released. But they forgot him (lid on). But God was with him and two years later the cupbearer remembered and told Pharoah Joseph could interpret his dream. So he was released from jail, interpreted the dream and was made Prime Minister (lid off).
As the story continues he eventually has a chance to meet his brothers for the first time since they sold him, although they did not know who he was. This gave him a chance to retaliate, but God was with him. He made them jump through hoops for a bit, but he finally revealed himself to them and they begged for mercy. But in Genesis 50:20 we can see what the journey accomplished when he told them; “You meant this for evil, but God meant it for good, in order to bring about this day, to save many people.” What a lid buster! He had all the power in the world to do anything he wanted to pay them back, and instead he forgave them and saved them and the entire region from starvation.
Had Joseph kept the lids on his life, he would have seen himself as a victim and the bitterness and resentment would have caused him to want to retaliate and make his brothers pay. But he learned in the lid times to listen to and wait on God then break through the lids to something even better and greater. Perhaps you’re feeling today like your on the wrong road, you feel like you’re being held back by others and circumstances. like Joseph, let God teach you to break through each lid so you can live beyond anything you could have imagined. Remember the lid will try to stop you, BUT GOD!
