“Just ask the animals, and they will teach you.
Ask the birds of the sky, and they will tell you.
Speak to the earth, and it will instruct you.
Let the fish in the sea speak to you.” Job 12:7-8 NLT
In the early 1920’s the South was in an agricultural crisis. Because of continually planting cotton the ground was being depleted of nutrients so the quality and quanitity of the crops were poor. Then the Boll Weevil almost completly destroyed it. But God was preparing a man for such a time as this, his name was George Washington Carver. He developed Crop Rotation to give the land rest and studied which plants would help restore the last nurients such as peanuts, sweet potatoes and soy.
He convinced the farmers to try it, they did and it worked. Now there was another problem, there were too many peanuts and not enough uses for them, so they were harvested and rotting in the barns. G.W. Carver had developed a close relationship with the Lord by walking in nature at 4 AM and listening to what God was trying to teach him. Since he had no answers to the peanut problem, he decided to ask God and God answered him big time. He gave him instructions on what to do with the peanuts in his laboratory. He followed God’s directions and within a relatively short period of time he came up with 300 ways the peanut could be used with everything from peanut butter, makeup, glue, chili and worstershire sauces.
Carver not only knew how to talk and listen to God, but follow through with wisdom and knowlege way beyond his own intellect. He knew God was responsible for all he accomplished in life. Carver not only was an inventor, but the co-founder of Tuskegee Institute and gained a doctorate to name a few, all during a time when a black man wasn’t accepted too many places in the South. So how about you? Are you taking time to listen to the amazing things God is waiting to tell you. Carver changed lives and history, you can too when you listen to and learn from God.
