Tonight Jesus will be arrested in the garden after breaking bread and having Passover supper with His disciples. But one of the most amazing things that happened that night gets passed over so often, Jesus saying I AM and Roman soldiers fell backwards. Just saying two words, I AM revealed the true power of who He is was seen and felt. And from that point on, we see that Jesus spoke not a word to the Sanhedrin, the High Priest or Pilate.
Why do you think that was? It goes back to Proverbs 18:21 that tells us he power of death and life are in our tongues. Jesus’ words were always powerful, bringing healing, deliverance, hope, conviction, etc. and when He stated that He was the Great I AM, His power was released on those before Him. If He would have kept talking and answering their questions, they could not have beat and whipped Him nor nail Him to the cross. But because He knew His mission was to seek and save the lost by willingly laying down His life, He had to keep silent as a lamb led to the slaughter.
When we think we know just how much Jesus sacrificed for us to be able to be reconciled back to the Father, we see another way Jesus truly gave His all. And because of it, those who accept Him and His salvation can now be called children of God. How awesome is our Savior? No wonder we also call Him Lord!
