“While the earth remains, seedtime and harvest, cold and heat, winter and summer, and day and night shall not cease.” Genesis 8:22
It’s official, the unofficial start of Summer has begun. It’s Memorial Day Weekend, which in and of its self sounds like an oxymoron, but is what it has become to be known. Although Monday is a day to remember our Military and First Responders who died in the line of duty, for most, it’s a long weekend that ushers in Summer.
It’s like with most things these days, we rearrange and things to make them convenient for us. It doesn’t seem to matter that the main reason they exist is lost, as long as we can feel comfortable and enjoy ourselves that’s all that matters. Although there is nothing wrong with enjoying a long weekend, we can’t forget those who gave up not only their long weekends, but died giving up their days, weeks and years so that we could could enjoy ours freely.
Aren’t you glad to know that there are things that never will change, as we are reminded by today’s verse. The same God who put all of nature into order also reminds us that there is no greater love than those who are willing to give up theirs for another (John 15:13). He who sent His own precious Son to give His life as a ransom for many, not just in this world and time, but for all eternity in heaven. So this “Unofficial start of Summer weekend” make sure you take some time to remember that Jesus died to save you not just for heaven, but so you could live the abundant life here on earth. And also the brave men and women who gave their lives so you could enjoy this weekend and all your other days.
