You formed my innermost being, shaping my delicate inside
and my intricate outside,
and wove them all together in my mother’s womb.
14 I thank you, God, for making me so mysteriously complex!
Everything you do is marvelously breathtaking.
It simply amazes me to think about it!
How thoroughly you know me, Lord! Psalm 139:13-14 TPT
When I hold a baby, I can’t help but think of how amazing God is. I mean he took a microscopic sperm, which out of more than 40 million and usually only one will fertilize the egg. After nine months of gestation, a fully formed baby is developed. And no two babies are the same; even twins are different in many ways. We so often hear about how the mother’s womb protects and nourishes the baby. How quickly the ability to hear occurs and response to noise, pain and agitation from both outside and inside the womb.
But did you know that whenever a pregnant women suffers from organ damage like heart attack, the fetus sends stem cells to the organ helping it to repair. To me that’s beyond amazing. No wonder the mother child connection is so strong. Perhaps that’s why a baby that doesn’t receive loving touch and gentle rubbing, often become what professionals call “Failure to Thrive” babies. They refuse to eat, don’t grow or gain weight. It also explains the enormous emotional and physical pain a woman experiences after a miscarriage, stillbirth or even death later in time. How intricate even our relationships are with one another. As a mom, this makes me wonder how many of us may have received help from our children without us even knowing it.
I wonder if this is why Jesus told Nicodemus “you must be born again” to gain salvation. In our natural birth, we develop an intricate and close relationship with our mothers. In our spiritual birth, we develop everything we need to create an intricate and close relationship with our Heavenly Father. We truly need to be “born again” and when we don’t develop after that birth, we become spiritually “failure to thrive”. If you have been spiritually born again, make every opportunity to become closer to your Heavenly Father and grow in Him.
