What you say can mean life or death.
Those who speak with care will be rewarded. Proverbs 18:21 NCV
Words, we use them everyday, sometimes for good, sometimes for bad. Sometimes we build up, sometimes we tear down. Sometimes we really mean them, sometimes we don’t. In fact today’s verse tells us they are a matter of life and death. We don’t realize how powerful our words truly are and they don’t just affect others, although we are more aware of what we say to others.
We don’t even realize what we’re saying most of the time. I mean think about it, have you ever said, “I’m dying for a peace of cake.” Now think about that statement. Wanting a piece of cake is killing you. Really? Why wouldn’t you say, I’m living for a piece of cake? At least then you could really enjoy it. And how many other common statements are like that? Have you ever called yourself stupid? How about, this always happens to me or it always rains when I plan something. What are we doing to ourselves? Bottom line is we have what we say, good or bad.
So whether we’re talking about ourselves or our circumstances or others, we need to realize we are speaking life or death over our lives. I encourage you to consider your words, let them be full of life and encouragement, especially in the time we’re currently living in. You won’t be sorry, you will see the change that a simple encouraging word can achieve, especially in our children.
