When he had received the drink, Jesus said, “It is finished.” With that, he bowed his head and gave up his spirit. John 19:30
Good Friday, the day Jesus was tortured with a crown of thorns, beating, having his beard pulled out and 39 lashes with a cat of nine tails that inflicted maximum damage to anything it came in contact with. So severe were His wounds the Scriptures say He didn’t even look human . And this was all before He even went to the cross.
Once He got to calvary He placed Himself on the cross so they could nail Him to it. Truly He laid down His life, no one took it from Him. Oh what love! But today’s verse reminds us of something we often miss that takes away every question if He really was the Son God. When people are dying their head doesn’t drop until their spirit has passed into eternity. But notice He bowed His head before His Father, said “finished”, released His Spirit into God’s hands and died. Oh what majesty!
Transition thought: Only the Son of God could endure such physical torture and humiliation and still die with grace and majesty.
