Then Peter said, “Silver and gold I do not have, but what I do have I give you: In the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, rise up and walk.” 7 And he took him by the right hand and lifted him up, and immediately his feet and ankle bones received strength. Acts 3:6-7
When Jesus walked this earth He was always going around lifting people up out of their current situation. He made the lame to walk, the blind to see, the deaf to hear, the lepers made whole and those oppressed by evil spirits freed. He lifted the woman caught in adultery up out of her way of life into newness in truly living. He lifted the woman with the issue of blood out of her guilt and shame by stopping her and telling her face to face that her faith had made her well (whole) and she was to go in peace.
His disciples watched as Jesus brought healing, deliverance and hope to hopeless situations. They not only saw, but learned the power of lifting people up out of their situations and giving them a new life and making them free. We can see this in today’s verse with how Peter and John responded to the lame man. Giving Him money would have only given him temporary help, but they had learned how to give him what money can’t buy, healing, health and faith in Jesus.
Those who have entered into a relationship with Jesus have received everything He is, after all 1 John 4:17 tells us as Jesus is so are we in this world. And we are not to keep this, so great a Salvation to ourselves, we need to share it with others so they too will have the opportunity to accept Him as their Savior and Lord. Let’s make it a point to go out and lift others up so they can see the grace, forgiveness and mercy of Jesus.
