By living in God, love has been brought to its full expression in us so that we may fearlessly face the day of judgment, because all that Jesus now is, so are we in this world. 1 John 4:17 TPT
Last night at our current Bible Study Living In Jesus, the question was asked; Can we really be like Jesus? After all He is God, and a great discussion ensued. Was Jesus able to live and do all He did, only because He was the Son of God? That’s a very good question and the answer is yes and no. And not that isn’t an easy out answer, it’s a complete one.
Yes, Jesus walked this earth as very man and very God. He came to live the life of a human, so that He not only would He know what it would be like to live like us; but so we also would know that through the power of Holy Spirit we could also live like He did. Consider that we don’t know too much about Jesus’ life growin up. But Scripture does make it plain that before He could begin His earthly ministry He had to receive Holy Spirit,
Why? He is the Son of God with all power. Because Jesus was our example. He was baptized and received Holy Spirit to empower Him. When we accept and receive Him as our Savior, we too receive Holy Spirit and become empowered to live as He did. So then the question is why don’t we? Probably because we don’t really believe we can do the things He did, because we think He did all those things because He is the Son of God.
But Scripture tells us we too are able to call ourselves children of God (John 1:12), because we have accepted His substitutionary sacrifice and received His Holy Spirit, just like Him. This should make us question why aren’t we able to influence people, heal the sick, calm storms, remain calm in the crisis, respond to life instead of react and yes, even raise the dead. Could it be because we limit ourselves because we believe we’re only human? And on top of that even speak it over ourselves.
We may be human, but our spirit has been reconciled back to God, because of His Holy Spirit living in us. My friends, we are living in a time where wanting to live like Jesus is just a nice cliche, it is imperative, not only for us the Believer, but for those who still don’t know Him like we do. Let’s decide to embrace the truth that Jesus resurrection power is living in us, just waiting to work with and through us to show people who the true Jesus is and they will want to know Him too. It truly is a matter of eternal life or death.
