“If a house is divided against itself, that house cannot stand.” (Mark 3:25)
Family is such a precious gift from God. So precious to the heart of God, that it’s Satan’s favorite target. He knows if he can weaken the family unit, he can weaken all of society, and he does it one heart and home at a time. He uses many different types of weapons such as self-centeredness, jealousy, lust, dissatisfaction, comparison, pride, rejection, betrayal to name a few that wounds our souls and places wedges in our relationships. These relationships extend far beyond the nuclear and extended families into our relationships with coworkers, classmates, neighbors and of course the church.
A church congregation is often called a “family” but just like a biological family, there is often dysfunction that hinders us showing love, grace and respect to one another. Without these a family begins to implode and the only One who can stop it and rebuild is placing Jesus in the center of it all. Colossians 1:17 reminds us that He holds all things together especially family units. As we pray for our nation to be recommitted let us pray for Jesus to once again be in the center of families and for Him to work through and in every member transforming us into the people He always created us to be.
Unity and love in individual families that reach out in hospitality toward others (Romans 12:9-13)
Establish healthy relationships between parents and children (Malachi 4:5-6)
