Whoever pursues righteousness and love
finds life, prosperity and honor. Proverbs 21:21
Yesterday was the 4th of July and we celebrated another year this nation that began as an experiment is still thriving. Even before it’s existence there were those who believed in a nation that could be governed by its citizens through checks and balances to ensure that all its people would have opportunity at life, liberty, the pursuit of happiness and prosper. That thought wasn’t just a good idea, it was a God idea. Remember, God never wanted Israel to have a king. He wanted them to depend on and trust in Him and He would lead guide and direct them and help them become a mighty nation.
Proverbs 14:34 reminds us that righteousness exalts a nation and we hear so often especially from Believers that the United States needs to get back to righteousness. But that begs the question, whose righteousness? God wanted Israel to be righteous because they believed in and trusted Him as their God. But Israel was more into self-righteousness, meaning no matter what, they could do anything themselves. And they made that perfectly clear in Exodus 19:8 “All that the Lord has spoken we will do.” Bt the truth is we can literally do nothing without God in our lives.
Our nation most certainly needs to get back to righteousness, but not self-righteousness! We need to remember true righteousness only comes from a reconciled relationship with Father God through His Son Jesus Christ. Righteousness doesn’t come from right behavior, rather right behavior comes through the righteousness of Jesus. Beloved the only way this nation will be turned back to righteousness is for His blood bought children to share the Salvation that has brought us deliverance and freedom. To tell them His great love is what called us to Him and that because of it we now can love them in return. This is what our Founding Father’s knew and we have seemed to forgotten. The foundation and everything they built on it was that they knew that God Himself we their wisdom and hope to see a nation and its people flourish while being influenced by His love, mercy, grace and His Righteousness.
