I have heard all about you, Lord. I am filled with awe by your amazing works. In this time of our deep need, help us again as you did in years gone by. And in your anger, remember your mercy. Habakkuk 3:2
So many people are talking about the “change” that is needed in this country and how a different ideology is going to make the difference. But today alone I read three articles that is saying something different. The first is that The Freedom From Religion Foundation an atheist group in Kansas actually got a Middle School to shut down Operation Christmas Child because of its and I quote “strong Christian beliefs”. Really? Little children who never received a Christmas gift in their lives and may be going through a horrible time will now be denied that joy, of receiving a gift of love because someone has a problem with celebrating the One that Christmas is all about.
The second was an article that Melissa McCarthy will no longer support the Christian Anti-Trafficking Group, Exodus Cry, now get this because it’s trying to stop the sex industry. Are you kidding me? How demented are people getting that we would promote the sex industry rather than save children and others from being sex slaves? And they say they are also are against abortion and LGBTQ. How horrible that they would want to fight for the life of the unborn. And just to set the record straight they do not hate the LGBTQ community.
The third is a judge in San Diego has ordered strip clubs to be reopened while churches and schools are ordered to stay closed. My grandmother would be saying, “this is beyond my comprehension.” And I think most of us would agree.
How can we say we want to become a kinder and gentler society when we not only allow, but support these things that hurt the most vulnerable among us our children?
The change we need will only happen when we experience a Spiritual Awakening where people’s lives are radically changed and as a result it changes our cities, states and nation. These times of “awakening” have happened many times with some of the following changes:
– Laws change or are enacted to protect the oppressed and uphold justice. – Reconciliation takes place between races and ethnic groups. – There is a decrease in crime. – Private and public acts of immorality decrease dramatically. – Businesses receive money and merchandise back that were stolen. – Foul language become almost non-existent. – Families and relationships are restored and strengthened. – Churches begin to get serious about helping the poor and needy in their communities and on the mission field.
Now doesn’t that sound like the kind of place you would like to live in? If the answer is yes, then we need to begin to seek a spiritual awakening in this land. We can achieve this together, we just need to each begin. Below are some ways to help us take the first step.
– Begin to pray and share with God the desire of your heart to see our nation return to Him. Share with Him the things you would like to see happen. – Tell Him you want to be used of Him to bring restoration to this nation. – Ask Him to refresh, renew and restore your soul and empower you to share Him with others and help them find the deliverance and peace they are so looking for.
