I will say of the Lord, He is my Refuge and my Fortress, my God; on Him I lean and rely, and in Him I [confidently] trust! Psalm 91:2 AMPC
Living on a small farm with two barns and a bad winter and it becomes a resort for feral cats. Most of them are still afraid of me, but there are a few that like to spend the night and stormy days in my mudroom. The other day was rainy and cold, when I heard a kitten crying and when I went to investigate, there it was in one of the boxes I made for them to sleep in. It was soaking wet and shivering. I brought it in to dry it off and warm it up.
Then I heard more crying and there were two more kittens and one of the barn cats soaking wet and looking at me. She didn’t run away, but she kept her distance. I got them dry and warm and returned them to the box and soon she was feeding her babies. As I watched them I thought about today’s verse. This Momma cat faced her fear of humans and brought her babies out of the storm into safety where she knew they would be cared for. She had come in with the other cats to eat from time to time.
How many of us had a fearful relationship with God. We know He loves us and wants to keep us safe, but we’re not sure if we can trust Him. Is He going to punish us for falling into sin to keep us on the straight and narrow? Does He really care and is He willing to help me? But when our back is really against the wall our defenses come down and we’re willing to go to Him to find safety.
And we find that He is more than willing to welcome us into His arms where we find safety, protection, warmth and comfort. Today Momma cat almost let me pet her, she’s beginning to know me because she sees me taking care of her babies. I wonder how many people will know how much Jesus loves them, just by watching us caring for others in the name of Jesus?
