For the greatest love of all is a love that sacrifices all. And this great love is demonstrated when a person sacrifices his life[a] for his friends. John 15:13 TPT
This Memorial Day may be observed differently than we’ve done in the past. But the reason for observing it has not changed and perhaps the way we observe it this year may be a better way. Instead of celebrating with picnics, parties, trips to the beach and amusement parks, we actually have slowed down enough to consider what this day is all about. Remembering those who but their lives on hold, lost limbs and health and some ultimately gave their very life’s breath all so we can enjoy the benefits of freedom.
This year more than ever should we embrace freedom, because as Americans until now, most of us never experienced having our freedom limited and restricted. We’re not familiar with being told where we can go and when we can go and how we have to do it. Because of hoarding many stores have even had to limit the number of items we can get. At first we complied because we were told it was for the good of the country and its citizens. But has the stay at home orders have extended, the willing compliance for good, began to feel like captivity. When we begin to feel like we’re being held captive, two things occur; either we begin to fight to free ourselves, or fear sets in and we ultimately surrender and lose our fight.
Today, consider all the men and women throughout this nations history who sacrificed in part or to the whole so we can live in a free nation. Although we may be experiencing limitations of our liberties, they are not gone. Think about all those on the front lines of this pandemic who either gave their live, put their lives in danger or gave up their rights to be with their families so that what we’re going through are only temporary restrictions, so that along those who fought for freedom in the past will see the sacrifice was worth it. That we will overcome what has been happening over the past month’s and we will emerge even better, stronger and with a greater appreciation for freedom than ever before! This will happen when we don’t put our hopes, dreams and future in the government, science or other temporal things although they are very needed; but rather in the true Author of Freedom, Jesus Christ, who is the Life, the Truth and the Way! When we know and embrace the Truth, then we will live in true victory and freedom. Have a thoughtful Memorial Day!
