But that’s not all! Even in times of trouble we have a joyful confidence, knowing that our pressures will develop in us patient endurance. And patient endurance will refine our character, and proven character leads us back to hope. And this hope is not a disappointing fantasy, because we can now experience the endless love of God cascading into our hearts through the Holy Spirit who lives in us! Romans 5:3-5 TPT
I believe that most Americans today had another jaw dropping moment that is forever burned in the memories of those who saw it. Again, a group living on the fringe of society crossing the line. Breaching the walls of the Capitol and then going inside and destroying the very building they say they are honoring and defending. But is that the real question? what makes them any different than the people who were doing this sort of thing this past spring and summer? The answer, nothing. Just like anger wasn’t a good reason for then, so now anger is still not a reason to destroy and disrepect property.
This needs to stop, and the only way to stop it, is to follow Jesus. I believe it’s time for a spiritual reality check and look at the current times with fresh spiritual eyes. Take time to read the account of the last week of Jesus’ life. Remember all those people who were waving Palm branches and singing Hosanna! Sunday, we’re yelling crucify Him on Friday morning. Why? Because He didn’t meet their expectations of overthrowing the Roman government. Sounding familiar? But the reality is God’s ways aren’t ours, because He has much bigger plans. He wasn’t interested in setting the Jews during the time of Jesus free from their oppressors the Roman Government. He planned to set all people free for all time from the great oppresor Satan. He did this by allowing Jesus to willingly lay down His life in a Praetorium, to be beaten and whipped within an inch of His life then hung on a cross to die so that sins penalty could be paid once and for all. Then rising again to break the power of hell, death and the grave forever for all those who accept Jesus as their Savior. And God’s plan changed history forever! Once again, the enemy made it look like he was winning.
We need to walk by faith and not by sight. We need to remember God told us He never changes (Malachi 3:6), so then it should make us wonder what does He have planned? It certainly is different from what we think it should be or what we are seeing. But, if you believe that God is truly God Almighty and that He is Sovereign you need to realize we’re thinking too small. God doesn’t just want to change or protect the government and policies of this nation to make us comfortable, or uphold the Constitution. He wants to change the hearts and minds of people, so that they will enter into a transforming relationship with Jesus and in turn society itself will change, which will change our government and influence the entire world for Jesus Christ and His Kingdom!
If you are fearful, angry, and confused, then go to the Lord, seek His face, listen to His voice and know His heart. Jesus didn’t die on the cross and rise again for politics, He did it so people could be reconciled back to God and make the way for everyone to come back into a relationship with Him. Pray that the Lord will help you remember He is your peace, in the midst of the storms. He is your hope, when all looks hopeless and He has given you a sound mind because you have the mind of Christ if you have accepted Him as your Savior and Lord. So that you won’t be deceived by what you see, hear or feel. Rest in Him and all He is and walk with Him through this tumultuous time and watch Him acheive greater things than we can imagine. Remember Jesus told us; “In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world!” John 16:33
