When you speak healing words,
you offer others fruit from the tree of life.
But unhealthy, negative words do nothing but crush their hopes. Proverbs 15:4 TPT
I love trees, they hold so much meaning and serve so many purposes. Perhaps that’s why our home page and my business cards have trees and roots on them. A tree not only is alive, but it gives life to others. Their leaves provide shade and protection from the sun. They produce oxygen for everything that breathes air and science has found that oxygen other than sustaining life actually can speed healing. A tree also provides food, fruits, nuts and berries, even if they aren’t good for humans to eat they provide food for animals. Some provide syrup, others have medicinal properties. They make paper to write on, firewood to keep warm and build houses, just to name a few things. Their root systems give stability to the soil around them and not only sustain their own life, but they can actually send water to other plant root systems miles away!
No wonder our verse today compares a person who uses “healing” words to trees. A person who uses their words to encourage, defuse a tense and angry situation, speak gently to someone hurting are not only speaking life into another person, but sustaining life in themselves. Considering the tenor of our society, speaking wholesome words are more than important, they can and do bring change and order into an angry and chaotic naritive. Using life giving words can even heal the wounds inflicted by negative words and once again ignite the light of hope into another life. Just like a tree that comes back to life with the warmth of spring after the cold of winter, so are our words of love and kindness. Imagine what wonderful things can be created, just by an encouraging word.
even when it looks dead in different seasons and just like trees we go through seasons
