All who are led by God’s Spirit are God’s sons and daughters. You didn’t receive a spirit of slavery to lead you back again into fear, but you received a Spirit that shows you are adopted as his children. With this Spirit, we cry, “Abba, Father.” The same Spirit agrees with our spirit, that we are God’s children. But if we are children, we are also heirs. We are God’s heirs and fellow heirs with Christ, if we really suffer with him so that we can also be glorified with him. Romans 8:14-17
When I was in second grade I decided I wanted to be adopted. So I began to tell all the kids in my class I was adopted, and they believed me. So I decided to step it up a bit and tell my teacher. Everyone wanted to know what it was like. My story was working very well until my mom had to go to Parent-Teacher Conference. When she came home she said she learned something very interesting, that I was adopted! She wasn’t angry, she was confused, what would possess me to say such a thing? I just thought it was neat that someone who didn’t have to love you would want to love you. Pretty deep for a second grader, right? It’s still a joke between me and my mom and truthfully neither of us still don’t know why I truly did that.
But when you think about it, isn’t that’s what’s so amazing about our relationship with God? He didn’t have to love us, honestly most of us wonder why He does love us after some of the things we have done. Yet He doesn’t even see our unrighteousness anymore, all He sees is His true Son Jesus when He looks at us. Because we are adopted by accepting the sacrifice Jesus made for us, we now enjoy all His benefits, everyone as a child of the Most High God!
Maybe today you’re feeling like Cinderella or a Pauper, because the world and others keep trying to tell you are a “less then”, will never amount to anything, not smart, educated, rich or good looking enough. But don’t believe what they say, believe who your adopted Father says you are, you are loved with an everlasting love, His workmanship, redeemed and forgiven, seated in heavenly places, the righteousness of God in Christ, blessed and hightly favored, just to name a few. Being adopted by God has benefits far out weigh anything the world can give. Straighten your back, lift your head, and walk with your God given authority as a child of the King!
