For He (Jesus) died for us, sacrificing himself to make us holy and pure, cleansing us through the showering of the pure water of the Word of God. Ephesians 5:25b-26
Lately all we’ve been hearing about is washing our hands with soap and warm water, to the tune of “Happy Birthday” two times, just to make sure. And we should, that’s just good hygiene . But now that this social distancing and being asked not to go out and about unless it’s for food, we need to begin to also work on a cleansing of our minds. All you have to do is turn on the TV, radio, go online or pick up a paper to have negative information bombard your mind. Even secular Psychologists and Psychiatrists are telling people to limit their news intake to an hour a day and not all at the same time! So how do we go about “washing” our minds and thoughts. Well, with the Word of God! That’s right, look at today’s Scripture that reminds us there is cleansing power in the Word of God, especially when we speak and declare it over ourselves, others, circumstances and situations.
So, instead of singing Happy Birthday, one verse of the song Jesus Loves Me is more than sufficient (34.46 sec. yes, I timed it). Say the Lord’s Prayer or the 23rd Psalm up to “I will fear no evil”, great place to stop! Slowly sing the chorus of Oh, How I Love Jesus and be reminded it’s because He first loved us. Psalm 34:4-7 or Philippians 4:8-9 time out to 20 seconds. Have fun going through the Scriptures finding ones that speak to you and time them out. Most cell phones have a stop watch option on them although very rarely used, take advantage of it. When you find ones you like, write them down, put them on the mirror in you bathroom and the kitchen sink and declare them while washing your hands.
We love to multitask, so go at it, cleansing your hands and your mind at the same time. You will begin to see a difference in your thoughts, your emotions and then the way you even speak. Remember Isaiah 55:11 tells us that God’s Word always accomplishes its purpose and when we speak it out it activates it in your life and the lives of others. Now go, Open your mouth with a mighty decree; I will fulfill it now, you’ll see! The words that you speak, so shall it be! Psalm 81:10 b
