‘Who are you, O great mountain?
Before Zerubbabel you shall become a plain!
And he shall bring forth the capstone
With shouts of “Grace, grace to it!” Zechariah 4:7
Every year in the Fall, I begin to seek the Lord as to what He wants His people to focus on and learn in the New Year. Some times it takes awhile for Him to reveal it and it’s found in a verse or circumstances that our world or society is going through. But this year He began shouting it during Rosh Hashana the Jewish New Year the year of 5785.
the Hebrew language is so rich and such deep meanings that you can’t take anything just at face value. Every number has a name and a symbol that all have meaning. This year the number five is like bookends to the year and five is the number of grace, whether it be the Hebrew word Chen or in the Greek Charis, they definitions are the same; the unmerited, unearned favor of God. It is the word Hei- which means Divine breath of life and power. It also is the symbol ה of an open window meaning to look or behold. So if we put them all together we can say the number five represents the unmerited, unearned favor of God that breaths in us His life and power as we behold Him alone. So in between this lies the number 7 the number of completion, and 8 the number of new beginnings. Adding them we can see through His grace He will bring to a close some things in our lives while beginning new things.
Just a few days ago we entered into our New Year 2025. Not only grace of another five, but then number 25 which means Trust. No wonder this year 2025/5785 is the year of Enabling Grace, an understanding that the grace of God is more than just being forgiven. It is a gift from Jesus to us that reconciles us back to our Father and makes us righteous in His eyes once again. It reminds us this life is we are called to live can only be truly fulfilled through His grace in our lives.
Today’s verse is about Zerubbabel coming out of 16 years of disobedience by believing all the voices he heard around him instead of listening to what God had told him to do. Instead of hearing “I’m finished with you” from God, through Zechariah he heard “shout Grace, Grace” to your problems and they will become as nothing. For “it’s not by your might or power but by My Spirit” says they Lord. (Zechariah 4:6). I encourage you to remove Zerubbabel’s name and put your name in its place and in 2025 trust the Lord and shout Grace Grace to whatever mountains lie before you and watch as God brings them to nothing.
